Our Story

The Steven L. Lyons Funeral Home was born out a dream of the the Rev. Steven L. Lyons, a twenty year licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer. The son of James and Shirley Lyons, "Steve" is a native of Cameron, NC and spent his formative years in Rocky Mount, NC, graduating from the Nash/Rocky Mount School System. As a youngster, he was a part of the Staff of Hunter-Odom Funeral Service, where he completed his Funeral Service Apprenticeship after graduating from Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service, Atlanta, GA, with an Associate of Science Degree in Funeral Service. His parents sacrificed much to send him off to Atlanta and entrusted him to the expert tutelage of Willie A. Watkins and the Willie A. Watkins Funeral Home where he lived and worked.

Steven holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from St. Augustine's University, Raleigh and a Master of Divinity Degree from Shaw University Divinity School also in Raleigh. He is the proud Pastor of St. James AME Church, Winston-Salem, NC and a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Phi Lambda Chapter.

Steven has been employed with several funeral homes in Eastern North Carolina, lending his professional services to those well established and successful firms, including William Toney's Funeral Home, Spring Hope & Zebulon. And so in 2011, preparation was made for the Steven L. Lyons Funeral Home dream to come true.

He is married to the former Nikki Walker of Raleigh and they are the parents of one son, Joshua. Nikki and Joshua both have given much of their time, support and sacrifice in helping to see their own family's dream become a reality. They, along with those who work with them, stand ready to provide Trust, Service and Compassion to those in their time of need.
